Katzenberger Foundation Art History Internships

Smithsonian Institution

The Katzenberger Foundation Art History Internship Program is a need-based program supporting internships for undergraduate art history juniors and seniors in research and collections projects at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., generously funded by the Katzenberger Foundation and administered by the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies. Six PAID ($5,000) internships are located in Washington, D.C.:

Eligibility
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
- Declared art history major, concentration, or related discipline
- Enrolled as an undergraduate Junior, Senior, or equivalent in a degree granting program, at an accredited institution (*Just-graduated seniors are eligible to apply, provided their undergraduate graduation date was not before 1/5/2010.)

- Qualify for financial need. The aim of this program is to provide an opportunity for high achieving students with financial challenges to participate in a significant internship experience. Applicants must be eligible to receive federal student aid (i.e. Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan, etc). The Financial Aid Office at the applicants school must verify that the student is eligible to receive federal financial aid.

Selection criteria
- At least a 3.4 GPA in your Art History (or related) major, as verified by the submission of academic transcripts.

- Substantial course work in Art History, or a related discipline

- Demonstrated interest in museums, galleries, libraries, or archives

- Demonstrated research skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of computers for word processing and spreadsheets.

Academic Essay: 3-4 pages describing how your academic goals, qualifications, and career aspirations relate to art history and the internship program at the Smithsonian

Two letters of reference from professors; If preferred, a professor can e-mail the reference letter directly to tspinale@si.edu.

Term: 10 weeks, Monday-Friday, 40 hours.
Stipend: $5,000.00
