New Postgraduate Doctoral Award

The School of Art History at the University of St Andrews invites applications for the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust Doctoral Award, to commence in October 2011. The Award will be made to a starting research student whose Ph.D. topic focuses on some aspect of twentieth-century European art. Preference will be shown to those with an interest in British Modernism.

The three-year funding package includes a full fee waiver (to the Home/EU student fee value of £3200.00 annually); a contribution to living costs (to the value of £6000.00 in the first year and a guaranteed minimum of £3000.00 in the subsequent years); and the opportunity to work as an undergraduate tutor or assistant in the School’s visual resources collection. Excellent office and working facilities are provided, as well as access to research funds for conferences and travel. The successful applicant will receive academic supervision from scholarly experts in the field and will be involved in the vibrant research culture of the School.

The School wishes to recruit a candidate of the highest quality with a relevant topic proposal. Prospective candidates should apply for the PhD following the University’s entry requirements and application procedure. The candidate’s intention to be considered for the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Doctoral Award should be indicated in the research topic proposal.
